Do you love to read as much as I do?
A key hole on a leaf of this bookmark symbolizes a door to a wisdom which books keep.
Open a book, dive deep into a new world and never lose a page or a bookmark again.
This bookmark is hard to be blown away and is easy to clean.
- This pattern is written in US terms
- Level of difficulty: Beginner

Measurements:
While gauge is not important, my finished bookmark using the aforementioned yarn and hook size resulted in:
Total length – 13-14 inches (33-35 cm);
flower – 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter;
leaf – 2 inches (5 cm) long.
Gauge:
Gauge is not important.
Notes:
- The chain 3 at the beginning of a row counts as 1 double crochet.
- When the instructions say “skip”, you will be skipping either stitches or ch-sps.
- You may join the next color with a slip knot or just by pulling up the new color of yarn.
- A join at the end of a round means a slip stitch to the indicated stitch.
- x stitch – number of same type of stitch goes in the same stitch, where x is the number of stitches (i.e. 5 dc means 5 dc in same stitch).
- stitch x – number of same type of stitch goes in consecutive stitches, where x is the number of stitches (i.e. sc 5 means sc in each of the next 5 stitches).
- [ ] – Repeat instructions between brackets the number of times indicated.
- ( ) – Total number of stitches at the end of each round.
- { } – Multiple stitches go in the same stitch.
- When working on the 5th row of the flower, you will need a 3 mm hook. If this is not an option, just make slip stitches rough, do not crochet them tightly.

Pattern Instructions:
Body
With color 1 (green):
Rnd 1: Make MR, ch 3, 11 dc in MR, join to front loop of the 3rd ch by pulling up color 2 (pink) (you may put a stitch marker on the back loop of the 3rd chain, you’ll need that stitch later). Cut color 1 (green) yarn (12 dc)
With color 2 (pink):
Rnd 2: Work into front loops: Ch 1, {sl st, picot, sl st} in same loop;
[sl st, {sl st, picot, sl st} in next loop] 5 times, sl st, join to back loop of the 3rd ch of the previous row by pulling up color 3 (blue). Cut color 2 (pink) yarn (6 picot, 18 sl sts/ 24 sts)
With color 3 (blue):
Rnd 3: Work into back loops of rnd 1: Ch 1, {sc, dc, ch 1, dc, sc} in same loop, [sc, {sc, dc, ch 1, dc, sc} in next loop] 5 times, sc, join to 1st sc (into both loops) by pulling up color 4 (purple). Cut color 3 (blue) yarn (18 sc, 12 dc, 6 ch-1-sp/ 36 sts)
With color 4 (purple):
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sl st in last sc of the previous rnd, ch 3, dc in same st, skip 2;
[sl st in ch-1-sp, skip 2, 4 dc (in sc), skip 2] 5 times;
sl st in ch-1-sp, skip 2, 2 dc, join to 3rd ch by pulling up color 2 (pink). Cut color 4 (purple) (24 dc, 6 sl sts/ 30 sts)
With color 2 (pink) and 3 mm hook:
Rnd 5: Work into back loops: Sl st around up to the last dc of the previous row (leave last dc unworked) (29 sl sts)
Do not fasten off.
Cut off the yarn, leaving about 4 inches (10 cm) tail. Thread yarn into a needle.
Insert needle (from front to back) into the 1st sl st of rnd 5.
Insert needle (from front to back) into the back loop and the 3rd loop of the last st.
You may secure and hide the ends now or when finished.
Or you can make another flower and sew both parts together.
If you make a double sided flower, you may just secure the ends and cut them off. However, I prefer to hide them as well to feel more secure about the finished project.
Leaf
With color 1 (green):
Rnd 1: Make MR, ch 3, 14 dc in MR, ch 3, join to 3rd ch (15 dc, 1 ch-3-sp/ 18 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc 6, 3 sc in same st;
sc 7, {hdc, dc, tr, ch 1, tr, dc, hdc} in ch-3-sp, join to 1st sc (17 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 2 tr, 1 ch-1-sp/ 24 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, inc, [sc 2, inc] 2 times, sc (bottom stitch), [inc, sc 2] 3 times;
inc, sc, [hdc, ch 1, hdc] in ch-1-sp, sc, inc, sc, join to 1st sc (31 sc, 2 hdc, 1 ch-1-sp/ 34 sts)
Join new yarn in the same color 1 (green) to a bottom stitch and make a chain 11 inches (30 cm) long, secure yarn and cut off leaving a 10 inch (25 cm) tail.
Thread that tail into the needle and attach the tail to the flower. I prefer to attach to a sl st of the 4th round
It may also look cool if attached right to the middle of the back side.
Secure and hide the ends.
