Invisible color change

Abbreviations and techniques:

  • rnd – round
  • st- stitch
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • inc – increase: 2 sc into the same stitch
  • yo – yarn over

Instructions:

Main color – green
Secondary color – white

When you make amigurumi and need to change colors, it may not always look appealing. Today, I will show you how to change colors so it’s less visible.

Let’s say your round consists of 26 stitches.

After you finish your last round with the main color, follow the simple steps below.

1) Sl st into the next st (Pic.1).

2) Remove the hook from the loop and insert it into the 3rd st on the right (pre-last sc) (Pic.2).

3) Pull up the secondary color (Pic.3) and sc into the next st (Pic.4).

4) Insert hook into sl st (Pic.5), yo, pull up a loop, place the main color loop back on the hook (Pic.6), yo, pull through all loops (Pic.7).

5) Pull main color tight on the inside (Pic.8).

You have now crocheted 2 sc of this rnd.

Crochet another 23 sc, then sc into the next st (where the secondary color starts) (Pic.9,10) (26 sts)

Next round: Sc in first sc of the previous rnd (Pic.11,12), 25 sc (26 sts)

Keep on crocheting the way you always do.

Main color – white
Secondary color – green

If you need to change colors and the next round consists of increases, follow the same steps as above however, pick up the main color in the second sc of the increase.

Let’s say your round consists of 26 increases. After you finish your last round with the main color:

1) (With main color) sl st into the next st and remove hook from the loop.

2) Insert hook into the 3rd st on the right (pre-last sc).

3) Pull up the secondary color and place 2 sc in next st (Pic.1).

4) Sc in sl st, insert hook into same sl st, yo, pull up a loop, place the main color loop back on the hook (Pic.2), yo, pull through all loops (Pic.3).

5) Pull main color tight on the inside.

You have now crocheted 2 inc of this rnd.

[Inc] 23 times, inc in next st (where you picked up the main color) (Pic.4,5) (52 sts)

Keep on crocheting the way you always do.

I hope this tutorial was helpful.
